Outremer and Reconquista game 3

 Should probably have attacked the flank of the Crossbows as opposed to going after the poor Spears. They had poor cards apparently had the mixed units.

Round 3 vs Robin Spence

I managed to outscout Robin by 40% I believe and the terrain consisted of a deep water flank with rough pieces spread around the table. First bit of luck was 3 wounds on white S dice against one of Robin mixed units with one of mine and then my beating it in one impact and Melee.

I caught a couple of Mamluks with a Superior and an Average Knight eventually and was feeling very confident. I broke the unit facing the Superiors but I think in the long run lost both the Knights due to flank charges. I also had a run of 6 or 7 blanks on green dice. Before these units died however, I broke the poor Spear unit that was hiding in rough with my fanatics.

I just could not kill anything else until the last turn, I.e. a unit of mixed Spear Crossbow from the rear with my returning Brother Knights.

I lost 15-8 so dropped from 6th to 7th or 8th place in the comp. Playing against some Armenian Cilicians in the last game with Ilkhanid recruits.

Introduction

 Here goes my first attempt at creating a wargaming blog. Firstly, my name is Tommy, but I do not object to being called Thomas. I have been a wargamer since April Fool's Day 2010 and I have played many wargames, namely DBMM, ADLG, Saga, To the Strongest, Mortem et Gloriam (MeG) and Field of Glory. I really only started playing wargames that use cards, like MeG and To the Strongest, somewhat regularly last year and I find both of these rulesets very interesting as in my opinion, cards have a slightly better, if you like, sense of humour than dice. Qin it to win it and take it on the Qin

 The Qin is a very appealing army to me, mostly because of their Polearm Devastating Charger characteristics, and their somewhat peculiar optional rule of throwing their armour off, and thus gaining the Melee Expert and Fleet of Foot characteristics. They do however also become unprotected. The first version has 3 9s of 3 Average Tribal Flexible Polearms, in front of 6 Tribal Loose Average Unprotected Experienced Crossbows. 9s are a sort of necessity because the Polearm doesn't work against Infantry post impact, being only in 1 rank, and of course, it gives the units extra resilience, as well as more firepower. These units should try and avoid combat as long as possible, and let opponents come to them. 4 6s of Polearm Devastating Charger units, 2 of which are Superior. These units are probably the ones who will beat most opponents frontally. Later Sargonid Assyrian

 This is an extremist version of the Later Sargonid Assyrian army. The generals are a Talented CinC, a Talented Sub, and a Mediocre Sub. This is to give it a decent chance to dodge a rough terrain heavy table, and also to outscout opponents. There is a 6 of Chariots with all of its capabilities (Devastating Chargers, Short Spear, Experienced Bows, Shoot & Charge, Melee Expert, Armoured Horses). This is a punchy unit that should blow away most things in period. An 8 of Exceptional Infantry and 2 8s of Superior Infantry, the latter having Shieldwall, Shield Cover and Short Spear, the former not having Shieldwall. These will probably break enemy Infantry with a good degree of speed, and they are more or less invulnerable to shooting. Even Skilled Shooters only shoot them on black dice. Combined with the Chariots, these are deadly. A 6 of Cimmerians and a 6 of Cavalry. These have 1 job, cover the flanks. If shooting breaks a unit, that's a bonus.
