MeG battle report (Nubian vs New Kingdom Egyptian)
The final result of the PBS phase, Dense terrain with a deep water secure flank
The battlefield, complete with 2 swamps, a gulley and a deep water secure flank.
Very weakened units about to break on both sides.
The Nubian dead pile. Also a massive collection of figures in the boxes and filing cabinets behind the table.
Today I played a New Kingdom Egyptian army with Nubians. Basically Nubian is a lot of Archery, both of the Skirmisher and non Skirmisher variety. The Egyptians are a mass of very high quality Chariots with foot filler in my opinion.
My Nubians won the attack/defend roll with their yellow dice against the Egyptian's green dice. The Nubians elected to invade. The Egyptians decided to defend in coastal terrain. The table, after the PBS phase, had a Coastal or deep water secure flank, 2 swamps (KAB test of you move through them) and a gully next to the coast. Then the bad news, the Nubians got outscouted by 90%. When your opponent has 3 cards and you only have 2, outscouting can happen but it isn't normally by that big a margin. Just to illustrate, the Egyptians drew 2 Reds and a yellow to the Nubians green and white.
What ensued during the game was that both sides were pushing forward aggressively and some tough Egyptian allies on the Nubian side were attacking and manoeuvring round a flank due to their Drilled training.
The initial Nubian shooting was partly devastating but then started going downhill. The 2 combat units in the main army eventually took down the 2 Egyptian Spear units, a Bow unit (through a flank attack) and very luckily a Chariot unit.
However, the entire Nubian left flank, including those 2 units, had evaporated, but at the cost of the Egyptians having suffered 5 dead Tugs, a dead Sug, and some very badly battered units. The basic definition of a Phyrric victory.
In the end, myself and my opponent called the game after 6 bounds, due to the flanking manoeuvre proving a bit unfruitful as a result of the delaying Chariot Tug and a Nubian Sug on the Egyptian side. The score was 12-12 in the end.
A big thank you to my opponent, Ian Newell, for a tough, interesting and very eventful game. One event that happened in the last bound was one Nubian general dropping all his cards (suffering an S on a KAB test for being with a broken Tug, thus dropping 2 red cards and 2 yellow cards), and another general being downgraded to Competent from Talented.
